Our hopes vanished when we found out we will not be able to leave the country only by train. Then the other problem was that the Hungarian train company was on strike. Then we got lucky, they decided to suspend the strike a few days before we had to leave. As always I hate to depend on others.
The train left from Timisoara (Romania) early in the morning. We were surprised that we got a 1st class wagon, however we payed for 2nd class. This was all good. After we arrived to Budapest (Hungary) we found our next train to Vienna (Austria) in less then 5 minutes and got to our places. It was a really long and boring trip. What can you do on a train?!? After many painful hours the train stoped in Vienna.
The next quest: find the train to Salzburg (Austria). Well, it was pretty easier then we could imagine. It was next to the train we got off. Actually the train was going to Munich (Germany) via Salzburg. I think we got lucky again. And we were happy that we managed to get the last train we were supposed to be on. Next... many boring hours to the other side of Austria. And finally we arrived!
We bought the Salzburg Card that permits one free admission to all major sights, free travel by public transport and other special places listed in the Salzburg Card-Guide. It could be used for 24, 48 and 72 hours after the 1st validation. We got the one that was valid for 72 hours for 34 euros. We visited the house where Mozart lived, actually we stayed next to that house. Then we visited Mozart's birth house. We needed 2 days to manage to visit all the fortress. It was really amazing. And this was all for free with the Salzburg Card.
The day before we left early in the morning we left the flat to visit the Zoo. It is really big with many animals, but too bad cause the lion died. After spending there some time we took the bus to the cable cars, which took us to the top of Unterberg mountain. The photo of the mountain was taken while we were waiting for the bus. Even the cable cars were free with the Salzburg Card. The cable car took us to the altitude of 1830 meters. It was all white and full of people. From the top you could see an amazing panorama. That days was exhausting.
Unfortunately the day we had to leave came. We headed home, and it was a boring trip. Everything was fine until we arrived to Budapest. There we had to board a Romanian wagon. You can't imagine how crowded and dirty the Romanian wagons were. I felt like heading to Auschwitz with a ghetto train. Beside that it was cold and we were sitting like sardines in a can. We couldn't bare this for more than 1 hours and took our stuff and moved forward to an Austrian wagon. It was like paradise. We were alone, we opened the chairs so we were able to sleep. Not to mention that the feeling of heading to a concentration camp disappeared.
It was a long trip, but was worth it!
