After I got my Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook I felt like I needed a mouse too. The touchpad is fine, only that I can't work with it in PhotoshopCS3. For this one I didn't research the net, I saw it by chance on a shelf in the hypermarket. It made me curious, cause I could not see the scroll wheel. Then I took it off the shelf and looked closer, then I found out that it had no scroll wheel, but even better! The mouse has an OptoWheel - an optical sensor to replace the wheel and features a comfortable touch scroll panel. This allows for four way scrolling and it is easier to use than the traditional mechanical wheel. It connects via USB and uses a laser sensor and provides more tracking power than LED optical mice.
Without the driver provided on CD the Genius Traveler 355 Laser mouse works fine, only that the horizontal scrolling did not work, just the vertical scrolling. I had to try it out. The setup file was 67.0MB. I didn't check the unpacked size after install, but it's a pretty big file just for a mouse driver. I guess they included there all the drivers for all the hardware they have. After installing and restarting the notebook horizontal scrolling worked fine, only that it didn't scroll enough and wasn't even smooth.
I needed to adjust the horizontal scrolling. I opened the tool from the tray. It wasn't really user friendly and moved pretty slow. First I thought is not responding but after a few seconds he did what it was supposed to do. I didn't manage to make the horizontal scroll move smoothly so I decided to remove the driver. Uninstalling the driver was no problem.
Overall it's a good mouse, pity that the driver didn't work as I expected to.
